The World Series

Well, my mom and her boyfriend have been visiting and stay up LATE watching the World Series. Personally, I always thought baseball was one of the most boring sports, and if it represents America (Mom, baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet), we're a rather boring nation. Need to do something about that. Maybe an extreme sport better represents us. Or something more competitive, like football.

Also, as Citizen X. pointed out, it's quite pompous that it's called the World Series when all the teams are from the U.S. He gave the example of the World Cup soccer championship which is held every four years. The World Cup really does incorporate teams from all over the world, from countries large and small. Even to get to qualify is a big thrill for countries who never before qualified. It is really a world competition, similar to the Olympics. I didn't comprehend his enthusiasm about the World Cup until the Citizen said "Imagine, if the Superbowl was only every four years." Oh. Ok. I would be really excited too.

The next World Cup is 2006. But it's not too late for baseball to become a "world" sport. It's very popular in Japan and South America. Surely a World Series is a real possibility.

Well, I live in Chicago so you can imagine all the craziness and White Sox mania! There's supposed to be a parade today I believe.
