Read here how the movie theater industry really doesn't want you to actually see a good movie. The details on this article on Slate really shouldn't surprise anyone.
Ive been telling people for years about the concession stand - how much profit they rake in. The prices are obscene and people pay it, if you factor in the cost of that plus the movie that's one expensive evening. That's why I take my own snacks and drink and I try to go to the cheapest showing possible...which lately in the daytime isn't that cheap.
I think Hollywood is also afraid of spending money on original ideas, they consider it too risky. If a movie shows any type of profit or success, Hollywood will place bets on a sequel - knowing audiences will have good feelings about the original and will most likely shell out money for a sequel.
The problem is - the more we keep going to these dumb films and lame sequels, the more they'll make them because Hollywood thinks that's what we want. We need to have a revolution, STOP going to see crap. Force the studios to make bold decisions and make a good movie that isn't a remake or sequel or prequel or copycat...

Lagato: I think the reason movies go to DVD right away is - that the movies themselves stink!
