G'bye, Mate

Despite his over-the-top theatrics, his commitment to wildlife was unwavering. I recall an episode of "Crocodile Hunter" where he was in the American west, searching in desert caves. He held up a small brown object, and with all the enthusiasm of a child in a candy store, exclaimed: "SNAKE POOP!!" Then he tucked it into his shirt pocket for safekeeping. Even a new parent doesn't get as excited about poop! But he died doing what he loved. How many of us would be able to that?

I was really sad when I first heard this. But you're right - he died doing what he loved. There are worse things...

I know, it is so sad for him to be gone so young.

My favorite episode of Croc Hunter was when they were in the river at night and Terri accidentally fell in..she's splashing about in crocodile infested waters. The dog jumps in to save her and steve sits on the edge of the boat and bellows "Terri! Whatever you do....DON'T SWIM!" He always made me laugh, but he sure got lots of kids and adults alike excited about wildlife.

At first I thought it was a mistake. Now, I just feel sad, yes he died doing something he loved, but he also left 2 children and a wife behind. At least his legacy will live on.

I totally remember that one with the poop.
Actually, there was a lot of them where he digs through poop.

I don't think anybody will ever be so quite as entertaining.

Hey Junebee.

I remember that episode too...He was so funny! I loved his enthusiasm and energy...And he seemed so sincere.

One of my favourite moments was when he did a field assessment of a little critter that went something like: "See that lump on his jaw? It's called 'lumpy jaw'!"

It was only a matter of time, I guess...But I'll still miss him.

Take care out there, Junebee!

Your Pal,

Zambo.
